Electric vehicles and alternative fuels are taking an increasing percentage of the market, as people make the transition to greener motoring. But there are plenty of pitfalls around still, and Total Motion are once again at hand as a trusted and reliable name to help fleet managers in their quest to improve their carbon footprint.
Total Motion have more than 16 years’ experience in supplying and managing electric vehicles (EV) and fleet electrification projects. We started this in 2004 when the wider EV market in the UK was virtually non-existent and there was little infrastructure in terms of public charging points. In this respect we were industry pioneers for the EV market because we saw the enormous potential and of course the critical global benefits. By the end of 2006 we had over 450 EVs in operation.
Pioneers in EV fleet supplies
We were the first fleet management providers in the UK to supply an EV fleet, and in the UK leasing and fleet management sector we now have the largest percentage of alternative fuel vehicles on our fleet, so we saw the possibilities early and made a firm commitment, and like many of our innovative fleet management projects over the years, we took the lead and ran with it.
Most major vehicle manufacturers now have an EV in their product range with technology making EVs more affordable too. Also, the infrastructure around the UK is gradually providing more access to charging points and EV maintenance knowledge and skills. Consequently, the public are catching up and buying-in to the EV principle and the need to explore alternative fuels.
Currently the vehicle market has models showcasing a wide range of more sustainable fuels. Hybrid vehicles have been on the market for some time, but other alternative fuels include Biofuel – made from corn and sugarcane and can replace non-renewable crude oil-derived fuels – hydrogen – which produces no emissions – and kinetic energy – which converts energy used for braking and regenerates it into electric energy.
Total Motion researching new sustainable fuel technologies
Our team are already researching these technologies and seeing how we can incorporate them into our fleet supplies, but always in a practical and cost effective manner. And this is the most important point about this emerging and game-changing vehicle sector.
Total Motion have more experience than any of our competitors when it comes to understanding the electrification of vehicles. This is important because it is not simply a case of directly and immediately converting your fleet from petrol and diesel vehicles to EVs or alternative fuels. Instead, we partner with you on a long term project and work with you to complete risk assessments and feasibility studies, which seek to analyse your operations and requirements and identify the right kind of vehicles, funding models and fuel management schemes.
How we work with you on the transition to EVs and alternative fuels
The answer might be that your business is ready to move to EVs or an alternative sustainable fuel today, or it might be more cost-effective and practical to spend two years working towards this with a structured programme of strategic management and investment.
We are able to use our skills in providing whole solutions which look at lifetime costs and the end-to-end implications of moving to EVs and identify a programme of how best to do it, at all times being able to model and illustrate to our clients the cost and practical benefits.
Most people agree that the movement to EVs and alternative fuels is beneficial and inevitable, and it is easy to jump straight in and proclaim that your business is driving forward with this change. But if you partner with Total Motion you can utilise our experience and industry knowledge of this rapidly-developing sector, and be assured that our advice and recommendations will manage your transition at the right time and in the right way, and avoid any costly mistakes in the rush to be green.
