Total Motion apprentices Neil Spurling and Ross Matthew really enjoy working at the sharp end of vehicle management.
In their respective roles in data reporting and sales, the two Leicestershire teenagers are playing an integral part in ensuring our customers get the best levels of service and competitive prices.
The two are among several apprentices we recruited last summer following a drive to find bright young people looking to train for a rewarding career in the automotive sector.
Neil, who is 19 and from Braunstone, joined the company in June, after completing a course in games development at Leicester College.
He came along to Total Motion’s Open Day in April and, after looking around all departments, decided on an apprenticeship in Data and Reporting.
Neil said: “My job involves getting hold of data and giving reports, such as letting clients know when their MOT is due. I also input information about new cars and new drivers on to the system.
“It’s great being on the computer and I like the team I work with. Everyone here is warm and friendly and I’m getting good on the job training.”
Eighteen-year-old apprentice Ross from Kibworth found out about Total Motion’s recruitment drive via a friend of his dad.
Ross, who has worked in SME Sales since he joined Total Motion in July, also attended Leicester College, leaving with a level 3 extended diploma in IT.
Now, as part of his apprenticeship, he is furthering his qualifications by taking a level 2 business course and is assessed in the workplace.
He added: “I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do after college but I’m really enjoying my job.
“I check vehicle funders’ deals, so we get the most competitive vehicle prices, then I load them on to the website. It involves a lot of market research so my IT qualification comes in handy.”
“It’s nice here. We’re like a family and my team is close-knit. We all work to help each other.”
Total Motion managing director Simon Hill said the apprentices had settled in well and were making good progress.
He added: “They have been with us for six months now and are a welcome addition to the teams.
“As a progressive, go-ahead company we see it as vital to invest in the future of our young people, benefiting not just our business but also the communities we serve.
“Our apprenticeships provide a great chance for bright young people to train for an exciting, well paid job in the motor industry, without going to university and racking up huge amounts of student loan debt.”
